We had a fun time at my little apt. the other night.
Heather's plans had been in the making for weeks now to honor Kathleen with a baby shower.
Hillary suggested I make a "diaper cake" like one she has seen at her friends' showers. I searched online and it looked rather complicated. But Claudia, talented woman that she is, had already made one or two and offered to come over and show me how. Heather joined us to help and learn.
It involved taking about 100 diapers and rolling them up into logs and securing each with one of those VERY tight, clear hair ties.
With at least 4 hands, they are held in place around something tall (we used a container of baby powder) and then tied with ribbons. These steps are repeated while the cake grows wider and higher.
Then the pretty ribbons, baby socks, blanket, toys, spoons, pacifiers and other darling wee things are creatively tucked around to make it adorable AND practical. The tiny booties on the top are actually ones Kathleen wore on her baby feet years ago.
Claudia proudly shows off the masterpiece.
And Heather rightfully takes her place as the amazing apprentice.
Isn't this the cutest cake you've ever seen? And ZERO calories!
