Alberta, Canada

Since Day 4's goal was just under 500 miles and offered some interesting side trips, we decided to veer off the highway a little.

Our first stop was to Calgary to see the Olympic Sports Complex where the 1988 Winter Olympics were held. We were so familiar with Lake Placid and there was quite a resemblance.

But that particular day a mountain biking event was happening and the ski center was packed with bikers of all ages. They came hurtling down the mountain and rushed to get back in line to take the lift back up. The chairs were interspersed with attachments that carried their bikes up behind them. Interesting to watch, however a bit risky to stand in their path.
Hillary's fabulous smile still shines!

Thanks to a nice guy (9 time Ironman), we got a pic together on the gold and silver medal blocks. The Ironman's son was not to thrilled with his blonze medal, it appears. The wall behind us was a huge and exciting mural of the winter olympic events. I could have included the mural but we would have been microscopic, so I chose this pic! After all, this is our moment of glory!!
